She was telling me a hilarious story about a client coming in with a request to look like a particular celebrity. The most important fact is that God created all of us as individuals. Even identical twins have distinguishing characteristics.<br/><br/>I’ve always thought it was ridiculous to mimic others. Do you know that companies make billions of dollars every year off of those of us who play into the thought process that if a celebrity says it, wears it or represents it….IT MUST BE COOL! <br/><br/>UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUMMMMMMM<span class="word_break"></span>MMMM! NO!!!! <br/><br/>Understand first of all that most of these people represent a “gimmick” or something that their marketing team knows will sell. In their normal, day to day lives, they don’t look like what you see in music videos, on the big screen or in magazines. <br/><br/>Don’t get me wrong, I am the first to love wild makeup, bright colors, flashy prints, weird shoes and so forth. But there is a time, a place and a look for everything and everyone. <br/><br/>You can’t be 5’2” and want a weave like a super model. Why you ask? Are you really going to sport a 24” weave when you are only 62” tall? That’s nearly half your body height! Ijs….let’s be realistic. <br/><br/>I passed a young lady in the street the other day-in the middle of the week-in the middle of the day, no less, sporting a fire engine red Mohawk, a turquoise blouse, a pair of those colorful leggings and a dingy pair of $2 flip flops. <br/><br/>Excuse me miss…….WHERE ARE YOU GOING?! I’m willing to bet all that I own that she saw something similar on TV and said, “oooooo that is KA-YUTE! I’m rockin that!”<br/><br/>No maim!<br/><br/>We all know that I encourage everyone to be themselves when it comes to fashion and makeup. And if that young lady was being her respective self…..well, I stand corrected. <br/><br/>But if you are living on low to moderate income, but trying to pull off the look of a multimillionaire celebrity, let me be the first to tell you….LET THAT GO!<br/><br/>One thing I see too much of is the Barbie necklace made famous by Nicki Minaj. Ok, let’s get one thing straight……HAVE YOU SEEN A BARBIE DOLL? She has curves in two place and two places only. Hips and breasts. If you are a plus size woman…….NEWS FLASH: You are not a Barbie! <br/><br/>That is not to say that you are not beautiful….just that you are not a Barbie. Again, another attempt at mimicking a celebrity. <br/><br/>Someone will read this and say that I am being insensitive. It’s far from that. As a self-proclaimed, that’s right I said SELF-PROCLAIMED, Fashion Consultant, it is my job to tell you what’s hot and what’s not. So there it is: LET THE CELEBRITIES DO THEM AND YOU DO YOU.
